What is AppsForHealth?
AppsforHealth is quickly becoming Ontario’s premier recruiting and networking event for the mhealth and ehealth industry.
This interactive 2 day event provides an opportunity for professionals and students to discuss current trends in the industry while learning more about new emerging technologies.
On the second day of the event the student challenge begins. The challenge element of the event is only offered to students to compete, however professionals are encouraged to attend and see innovation in progress! Professionals are permitted to be mentors to student teams prior to and during the event. Professionals are not eligible to receive cash prizes.
How does the challenge part of this event work?
Prior to attending the event, students are encouraged to join a team, choose a challenge and find a solution. Each challenge is posted by a health care or non profit organization. Students are encouraged to form cross discipline teams in order to develop innovative new technological solutions. The AppsForHealth challenge provides an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their talent and skills. Students are able to use professionals as mentors however professionals are not eligible for prizes.

How to participate – Students?
- Register to attend the 2 day event - Its FREE for students to participate!
- Read about the challenges
- Choose a challenge and Register your team
- Collaborate and create a solution
- Present your solution at the conference
- Win prizes (professional series not eligible)
Guidelines for successfully competing
Student teams will:
- Complete a presentation of your solution that is no longer than 10 minutes
- Address the real-world health challenge being innovative and using technology
- Collaborate and co-create
Your final presentation may include:
- Technical details
- Screen shots
- Demos
- Mock ups and prototypes
- Static presentations
- Simulators
- Websites
- 1.0 or beta apps
Solutions will be evaluated by panel of experts from health care, technology and industry based on the following criteria:
- Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of the health care problem
- Must be clinically useful in the health care environment
- Must be created by team for purpose of the competition
- Must be technologically feasible
- Degree of completion
- Cohesive presentation
The conference begins May 10, 2012
The challenge element begins on May 11, 2012.
- Teams must be present to compete.
- Judges will move as a group to visit each team.
- Judges will assign a score
- The score will not be revealed to the team.
- After all of the teams have been scored, the judges will deliberate to tally the results and identify the top 3 scores.
- The top 3 teams will become finalists in the competition.
- The finalists will be required to deliver a 10 minute lecture style presentation to the remaining audience and judges.
- Awards for first, second and third will be presented.
- Please note: participants will be required to provide personal information to the College in order to collect prizes and they must be able to return to Mohawk College during normal business hours to collect prizes.
